End Rape Culture at University of Vermont
In response to a campus culture that led a University of Vermont fraternity to think it was acceptable to distribute a survey asking its members whom they would like to rape, a grassroots feminist coalition has launched a campaign to eradicate sexism at the University of Vermont.
The coalition, Fed Up Vermont, has called on the University to make substantial changes to end the rape culture on campus. In addition to calling on the administration to invest more resources into the women and gender studies department and make its courses mandatory for all students, the group has also requested greater transparency about sexual harassment, rape, and gender violence in the UVM community, including regular reports on occurrences of such violence. Fed Up Vermont has also asked UVM to develop leadership bodies that reflect the gender composition of the UVM community and project the role of women as leaders.
Act now to stand with Fed Up Vermont by asking UVM administrators to enact these changes swiftly, to take a stand against rape culture.
We the undersigned stand with Fed Up Vermont in calling on University of Vermont to enact changes to end rape culture in the UVM community. We therefore call on you to invest more resources into the women and gender studies department and make its courses mandatory for all students. We also request greater transparency about sexual harassment, rape, and gender violence in the UVM community, including regular reports on occurrences of such violence. Finally, we ask you to develop leadership bodies that reflect the gender composition of the UVM community and project the role of women as leaders.
