Keep environmental protection on the front burner.

How could Tom Vilsack approve a 382 acre clear cut of old growth trees in the Tongass National Forest?!  The decision is unwanted (public opinion is by far against clear-cutting old growth forests), dangerous (how much carbon will be released as these precious trees are chopped down, how many streams plugged with silt, how much topsoil washed forever away?!), untimely (global warming urges conservation now, not cutting!), poorly justified (why logging jobs when there is a need right now for many more conservation jobs?!), and un-renewable (logging jobs only last as long as trees that took hundreds of years to grow)!
I am dismayed and outraged at the USDA's irresponsibility in allowing this decision.  I will do everything I can to spread the word about this until it is stopped.  I urge you to halt this outrageous plan immediately and create conservation jobs for loggers in the area instead.
