Demand Validated Parking for Library-Goers

The Central Grounds Parking Lot (the lot right by the bookstore) is a very convenient spot to park for those students who like to study at Alderman or Clemons libraries after dark, but who feel uncomfortable walking home or relying on the bus systems. However, next semester, UVA is going to place an electronic pay-station in the Central Grounds Parking Lot, thus effectively closing the "loophole" that allows students studying late at night to leave after 12am without paying. This is fine for visitors to the school, but why do WE need to pay for parking just so we can have a safe and reliable way to and from the best study spots on grounds? Students here are already paying between 30 and 60 thousand dollars a year to go to the University of Virginia. I, at least, refuse to pay anything more just so I can get my homework done. For more detailed information on this matter, please read the Cavalier Daily article below. In addition please sign this petition, which is calling for Alderman and Clemons Libraries to offer parking validation for students who are studying in said buildings after the sun goes down.
