"Damien Mander served for three years in Iraq where he trained and deployed paramilitary forces – but after visiting Africa he dedicated his life to defending animals," said The Daily Star.
"After Iraq I was looking for the next adventure and [a trip to Africa] just seemed like it was going to be a six-month thing to do," he told LADBible.
He went on to say of the anti-poaching heroes he met: "They have something really worthwhile fighting for: giving up everything, being away from their family for so long each year defending the natural world.
"I had just come from Iraq where we were looking after dotted lines on a map and resources in the ground and it made me reflect on who I was as a person."
This amazing hero made a HUGE change, and HUGE difference, after he learned from his expeiences in Africa.
According to Damien's website: "10 years after founding and with the likes of Dr Jane Goodall as their Patron, IAPF," Damien's organization, "has an operational presence in 4 countries, currently running 3 major campaigns, and has supported or led over 45 other conservation programs. The rangers IAPF have supported or trained protect over 6 million acres of wilderness everyday in Africa."
