Animal lovers in Medina County, Ohio, had reason to rejoice this past weekend,
on March 22 and 23, as the local animal shelter's gas chamber, which was used
to kill countless homeless pets, was destroyed, reported Saturday's Cleveland.com.
Thirty members of the community took part in the destruction of the decades old chamber
which had claimed thousands of lives - those who had a hands-on part in the destruction had donated funds to the Medina County Society
for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for the opportunity to help destroy the device.
Sledgehammers were the tool of choice for the gas chamber's destruction -
one man utilized a Sawzall to destroy the hoses and cords.
In January, an anonymous donor made a generous offer to the county...
destroy the gas chamber and use it for scrap metal rather than
putting it up for sale at an auction and $10,000 would be donated to the SPCA for the care of the cats.
Saturday's demolition party prompted both smiles and tears as the deadly chamber
was finally eliminated for good.
Let this be the start of demolition of all gas chambers.
