This Country Is Taking on Abusive Factory Farming. The Rest of Europe Must Do the Same.

After years of public pressure, Denmark just announced sweeping reforms to tackle one of Europe's most intensive factory farming systems. The country plans to end extreme breeding practices, phase out routine tail docking, give pigs more space, strengthen drinking water protections, and begin shifting away from ultra-intensive industrial farming. This is huge, and the rest of Europe should not be left behind.

Sign the petition to urge EU leaders to follow Denmark's lead and strengthen animal welfare and environmental protections across Europe.

For years, animal welfare groups have warned about the suffering caused by intensive pig farming. In Denmark alone, roughly 9 million piglets reportedly die every year after being bred beyond what mother pigs can physically support. Many surviving piglets have their tails cut off to reduce stress-related biting caused by overcrowded conditions, while mother pigs can be confined to restrictive crates with little room to move.

But the harms do not stop with animals. Industrial pig farming can also pollute water supplies, harm nearby ecosystems, and leave communities struggling with toxic runoff, foul odors, and declining quality of life. And yet, Denmark's reforms show something hopeful: public education and political pressure can work.

After years of campaigning by animal welfare organizations, environmental advocates, veterinarians, and local communities, citizens pushed pig welfare to the center of national politics, and won meaningful change. Europe now has a chance to build on that momentum.

Sign the petition now to urge EU leaders to strengthen protections for pigs, reduce factory farming harms, and follow Denmark's example before more animals and communities suffer.
