Beautify the Ocean Gate Pumping Station

What if your town did this to your neighborhood?

Located on the corner of E Lakewood Ave and Anglesea Ave, centered in a neighborhood of residential homes, is a unsightly sewer pumping station that is owned and "maintained" by the Borough of Ocean Gate. In 2012 the the town removed all trees and shrubbery and a tall cyclone fence was erected surrounding the equipment. What was once a barely noticeable, treed lot became ugly, weed filled land with a tall fence and exposed mechanical pumps. This eyesore is surrounded by many homes that have this fence and equipment in their view.

I have been to the Council Meetings many times since 2012 to request that shrubs would be planted to beautify the property. I also requested that a building be constructed to house the equipment. The mayor and council have stated that they will consider my request, but as of 2021 there has been no progress.

Continuing to leave this property in this condition impacts property values and is an unfair burden to this neighborhood. When homes sell for a lower value in this neighborhood it effects the average value of all homes in Ocean Gate.

This petition demands that the Mayor and council move forward to to put this beautification project on their agenda, discuss options to add landscaping and a building to this property and proceed to repair ASAP.

If the council does not agree to act on this project, then we demand that this issue be put on the ballot as a town wide binding referendum.
