Who is Missy?
Missy is a much-loved family dog who will be 5 years old this November. I have owned her since she was 9 weeks old. She has been raised around young children, cats, and even a tortoise, demonstrating a calm and gentle temperament throughout her life. Missy is not only a family pet she is also a support dog for 2 of the 5 family members.
Missy is facing the possibility of being put down based on allegations that do not reflect her true nature, the truth of the matter or her history of behaviour. We believe the evidence—including veterinary records, witness statements, character references, and her lifelong record as a family pet—shows that Missy has been falsely accused of being a vicious or dangerous dog.
Evidence of Good Temperament
I have veterinary records supporting Missy's good nature and behaviour. I can also provide numerous signatures and statements from people who know Missy personally and can attest to her gentle character.
Importantly, I have evidence showing that Missy has been attacked by other dogs on more than one occasion. In one incident, the injuries were so severe that she required veterinary treatment and surgery. Despite these attacks, Missy did not respond aggressively.
A professional dog trainer who regularly walks a sheepdog in our area is also prepared to provide a witness statement to attest to this. The sheepdog often attempts to herd other dogs, yet Missy is the only dog that consistently interacts and plays with him calmly.
Responsible Ownership
I am a responsible dog owner who takes public safety seriously. In the past, I made the extremely difficult decision to have Missy's sister euthanized because of serious behavioural concerns which were embedded before she was rehomed with us. This demonstrates that I do not ignore genuine risks. If Missy were dangerous, I would act responsibly. However, the evidence shows that Missy is not a vicious dog.
What We Are Asking
We respectfully ask that any decision regarding Missy be based on the full body of evidence, including veterinary records, witness statements, character references, and her lifelong history as a gentle family companion.
Missy deserves to be judged on the facts and given a fair chance.
