As the problem of global warming worsens, California is passing stricter laws on new building projects - including some requiring solar. Since many of Chapman's buildings are either considered to historic or are on historic land, they will be exempt from such laws. However, we the community of Chapman, believe that even though Chapman will be within its rights to bypass this law, the ethical and responsible thing to do is to install solar panels on any new buildings and renovations moving forward. As utility rates increase and Chapman expands, the university will be spending increasing amounts on utilities. Therefore, installing solar makes financial sense as well, as the price of solar continues to decline.
