This Endangered Turtle's Egg Laying Beach Got Turned Into A Runway

It's the epitome of our tragic reality: an endangered turtle tries to survive and has to lay eggs on an airplane runway! We are ruining the habitats of animals all over the world all the time, but it's especially heinous when the animals affected are barely hanging on as is. The green sea turtle is just such an animal - listed on the endangered species list and quickly dying, in part because of human habitat destruction.

This particular runway was a gift from the United Arab Emirates and that's why the UAE should donate fund to protect the green sea turtle's nesting habitat.

This was a predictable outcome, we know that this species return to the exact beach where it was born to lay eggs. Sometimes the turtle even has to take a years long journey to arrive back at the beach. This lady turtle came back to where she was born to find only pavement and bustle. She must have been so confused!

People on the Maldives, where this beach and now runway exist, are saying that the frequency with which these turtles are returning to nest is not decreasing. That means that there will continue to be mothers coming to lay eggs only to find a desolate and unfriendly place to do it. We need to stand up for these endangered species now!

Will you sign on to ask the UAE to donate money to protect the green sea turtle's nesting areas? They obviously have cash to spare if they can simply donate a whole airport!
