Fund the Boyd Park Skate Park Project
Eau Claire skateboarders have been underserved in the city of Eau Claire, WI for years. The only facility in the city that is still open measures barely over 2,000 sq ft. The only skate park is so small that only one person can be skating on the park at a time safely. For a city with a population over 60,000, this is a ridiculously small facility in comparison to the number of active participants that live in Eau Claire. The city of Eau Claire also chooses to enforce a no skateboarding ordinance on the vast majority of public property within the city limits including the use of a skateboard for transportation on sidewalks downtown and even residential streets. The fine costing offenders over $200.00 per offense. The local skateboard community has raised over $40,000 toward the proposed Boyd Park Skate Park Project. The proposed new skatepark will be located just off of Main Street in Eau Claire inside of Boyd Park. The proposed project has a minimum budget of $75,000 and will be made of concrete with differing obstacles from the Lakeshore Skate Park in order to provide more space and variety for the local skate scene. By signing this petition you are asking the Eau Claire City Council to approve funding to match what the skaters have already raised up to $50,000. This would put the proposed skate park project over the top of our minimum budget and would allow the construction of the project as soon as the Spring of 2019.
Update #16 years ago
Thank you so much for signing our petition. We are still hard at work convincing the city council that this new skatepark needs to be a priority. We started a GoFundMe page to give everyone that wants to support us a simple straightforward option for donating. So far we have raised $1,000, but that is just the start. Please consider making a contribution and sharing the GoFundMe with anyone else you think might support this project. https://www.gofundme.com/eau-claire-boyd-skatepark
