Say NO to THREATS: Support our Kew and Willow Bookstore

Dear Kew Gardens Civic Leaders,

We are writing you in support of the recently vandalized Kew and Willow Books, an independent bookstore on Lefferts Boulevard in Kew Gardens. Established through crowdfunding in 2017 by women who were once employees of the Forest Hills Barnes and Noble, it is one of only three bookstores in Queens that sells new books and releases. And it is an important hub for our community.

Sadly, there have been threats against the bookstore. On the evening of Sept 26th an act of vandalism resulted in their front window being smashed in. We are told that the police are looking into the security footage from nearby businesses for more evidence.

Samples of threats written on mail and transcribed from voicemail.

We are a vibrant community and this is a matter of public safety. Residents and local businesses have signed in support of Kew and Willow Books to send a message that this type of miscreant behavior will not be tolerated in Kew Gardens. We urge you to take these threats and this violent act against a beloved business establishment seriously and to deal swiftly with any future threats.
