It's hard enough as it is to get objective coverage on almost anything in this country from a for-profit corporate-owned news media machine that eschews comprehensive coverage on important issues in favor of chasing ratings with sensationalism, cultural division, and both-sidesism.
But ever since CNN got a new owner and a new CEO, there have been some disturbing changes at the network. Vocal Trump critics Brian Stelter and John Harwood have been pushed out of the network, while new CEO Chris Licht has announced the network will be moving away from what management calls its "red-hot liberal opining" (which it hardly was). A former Daily Caller employee is now hosting the network's morning show.

It's hard not to see the influence of John Malone, the billionaire Trump donor who happens to be the largest shareholder at CNN's parent company. Malone has said he thinks that "Fox News…has followed an interesting trajectory of trying to have 'news' news, I mean some actual journalism, embedded in a program schedule of all opinions."
Not only is it a terrible business strategy — right-wing viewers will never prefer the Impossible Burger of FOX lite to the dripping, bloody red-meat fascism of FOX News — but it also is depriving us of liberal perspectives in a news and social media market dominated by conservative lies and delusion.
