Fish that have been tattooed with small designs, otherwise known as 'Painted fish' have routinely been sold in pet shops around the wolrd despite laws set in place to protect them from this cruel practice. Some country's have banned these practices such as the U.K but the loophole in allowing exported fish species to sport these tattoos means they are still sold to people who want a unique looking pet but don't know this significantly reduces their lifespan or they have supported a fish dealer who knowingly mutilates their live animals.
The procedure for tattooing the fish (mainly mollys) takes away the protective coating these fish naturally have and exposes them to disease that they would not have a high chance of getting if this had not been done. Sometimes small kanji symbols may be written on them or even give them lipstick tattooing for make a plain fish more appealing. This procedure is not just dont once either, it is repeated with acrylic dye over weeks or months with hypodermic needles that cause the fish pain and distress.
Would you want to be forced with a ugly tattoo for the rest of your life?. We need to stop this barbaric practice that should be left in the past. Please sign this petition to support your cause against it.
