Demand Accountability for the Racial Gerrymandering of Oregon's Tribal Communities

The cynicism and lack of transparency in Oregon’s redistricting process had the effect of dividing Tribal Communities in the maps passed into law. This directly dilutes the voting power of Natives and disenfranchises their communities. As a result, for the next decade equitable representation for our rural Tribal communities at the legislative level will be impossible, and the hope Native voting rights activists have worked so hard to build in recent years has been wiped out. This is a clear-cut case of Native voter suppression.

Demand former Oregon State House Speaker Tina Kotek, chair of the Oregon State House Redistricting Committee Andrea Salinas, Oregon State Senate President Peter Courtney and chair of the State Senate Redistricting Committee Kathleen Turner take full responsibility and accountability for the racial gerrymandering of Oregon’s tribal communities in the state legislative redistricting maps passed by the Oregon State Legislature, and commit to future legislation explicitly and forcefully protecting tribal communities of interest in the redistricting process.
