Demand the Senate Censure Eric Schmitt for His Completely Inappropriate Attack on Jack Smith.

During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, Sen. Eric Schmitt accused former Special Counsel Jack Smith of perjury, called him a "dirtbag" and a "villain," and claimed Smith's attendance at an Atlanta Hawks game was proof Smith was part of an Atlanta-based conspiracy. And he had "proof" in the form of texts.

There was just one problem. Smith hadn't gone to an Atlanta Hawks game. He'd gone to an Iowa Hawkeyes game in Maryland. He was even on TV at that game, so yeah, pretty clear Schmitt's accusation was a steaming pile of Bull-Schmitt.

And yet, incredibly, even after his accusation fell apart, he started getting all pissy with the other senators and with Smith, yelling and snorting like a pig.

And then, to make things even worse, reporting revealed that Schmitt's team had been warned that the text messages hadn't been vetted. And yet, he presented them anyway.

Senators have enormous power. Publicly accusing someone of a felony during an official hearing is serious business, and senators should be held accountable for the way they exercise that power.

The Senate has the authority to formally censure members for conduct it determines warrants condemnation. It sounds small, but it's basically a scarlet "A" for "Asshole." And Schmitt deserves it, big time.
