President Trump’s blatant conflict of interest needs to be the last straw

Government officials should not be able to profit from an industry they have influence over.

And yet that is exactly what President Trump has done by launching a cryptocurrency business shortly before taking office, and then aggressively deregulating the industry and pushing crypto-friendly policy once he returned to the White House.

Bombshell financial disclosures revealed that the president has added nearly $1.4 billion to his personal wealth from his crypto dealings.

These conflicts of interests should be illegal.

For decades, a glaring loophole in ethics law has created an exception to criminal conflicts of interest for presidents and vice presidents. The president's self-enrichment has made it crystal clear that that needs to change — and it needs to change now.

Trump told the New York Times that "nobody cared" about him making lucrative business deals while holding his public position.

Sorry, but we care. And Congress needs to care too. Sign the petition to tell your representatives that they must act immediately to close the gaps in our ethics laws and to hold President Trump accountable.

The president himself said no one cared. Prove him wrong: Sign the petition now.
