Kids Need Care - Not Cages!
Immigrant children deserve care, stability, and a chance to thrive. But if passed as written, the federal budget would do the opposite: restricting access to healthcare and slashing vital supports for children while pouring billions into prison-like detention facilities where no child belongs.
The federal budget leans into cruelty toward immigrant children, both in the punishments it seeks to inflict—and in what it proposes to spend our tax dollars on. The bill includes a cascade of tax and health provisions and fee requirements that will limit vital benefits and harm immigrant children and their families.
Our tax dollars should help kids, not hurt them.
Tell Congress to reject this harmful budget and invest in children instead.
Dear [Legislator],
As your constituent, I urge you to reject harmful and inhumane provisions in the current budget proposals targeting immigrant children and families. In addition to the ways that the budget proposal is harmful to all children, these provisions will cause irrevocable harm to a group of children who continue to be at the center of inhumane immigration enforcement tactics.
The proposed budget bill would spend billions on immigrant family detention centers, inflicting devastating trauma on immigrant children. It would also allow for the indefinite detention of children in violation of longstanding legal safeguards and impose sponsorship fees that will create a financial barrier for those who wish to sponsor unaccompanied children. Further, it limits access to vital tax relief and healthcare benefits that immigrant children—including U.S. citizen children and those with lawful immigration status—and families depend on.
The federal budget is the American people's budget. But what lawmakers are currently proposing does not reflect the values we share. That was confirmed recently in Quinnipiac and Fox News polls that show more than half of voters disapprove of the administration's immigration actions.
I urge you to reject any budget bill that includes provisions that punish children and betray the principles of justice and morality that have guided our nation since its inception.
