Tell Congress: Reject cuts to foreign aid

In President Trump's budget request for FY20, he proposes a drastic cut of 24-percent to the foreign aid budget, while asking for $8.6 billion in funding for a border wall. We must urge Congress to reject these cuts and speak up for the power of foreign aid.

Foreign aid makes up only 1% of the federal budget, but has a positive impact on the lives of tens of millions of people in places like Yemen, South Sudan, Somalia and DR Congo. Any cuts to this funding, especially during a time of such great humanitarian need, put lives in danger.

Sign the petition now to tell Congress that we MUST reject any cuts to foreign aid. Families in need are counting on us — and we can't let them down.
Dear Member of Congress,

As your constituent, I am writing to ask you to protect and prioritize the International Affairs budget. I ask you to fight for no less than $60 billion dollars for the International Affairs budget, which saves lives and creates the conditions for a safer, more prosperous world.

[Your comment will be added here]

The International Affairs budget demonstrates American values and leadership abroad. Humanitarian need continues to rise, largely due to conflict. Lifesaving assistance provided through accounts including the International Disaster Assistance account and Migration and Refugee Assistance accounts ensure that families have access to things like clean water and safe shelter when they are forced to flee their homes.

Foreign assistance is also a direct investment in global stability, conflict prevention and global prosperity. Programs funded by Development Assistance and the Economic Support Funds help address the root causes of conflict and help vulnerable families around the world build brighter futures.

I appreciate that Congress has twice before rejected proposed cuts to foreign assistance. I urge you to heed the broad consensus among business, faith and military leaders that we need to fully fund development and diplomacy. As your constituent, I ask that you fight for levels of foreign assistance that ensures that the United States remains a global leader.

Sincerely,

[Your name]
