President Biden has taken first steps to protect access to abortion, and we need him to keep going — and to be as creative and bold as possible.
We need a full government response to ensure people can get the care they need right now in the fallout of the Supreme Court decision. The urgency of this moment demands creative, immediate action.
Add your name: Tell President Biden you support bold steps for abortion justice!
Dear President Biden:
I am writing to you today to make it loud and clear: the time for bold, concrete action for abortion justice is now. Following the Supreme Court's decision overturning Roe v. Wade, it has never been more urgent and important that your administration be specific on your immediate plans to make sure people can get abortion care.
I know that like me, you believe in our ability to make our own decisions about our health and future with dignity, and that no one should be forced to carry a pregnancy against their will. For decades, abortion restrictions and coverage bans have pushed care out of reach for people of color working to make ends meet. This Supreme Court decision made an already dire situation worse overnight.
I urge you to take immediate action by:
*Declaring a public health emergency in response to the end of Roe;
*Committing to end the Hyde Amendment so that people who get their health insurance through Medicaid and other federal programs aren't forced to pay out of pocket for their care;
*Rescinding a 2010 executive order that prohibits plans in the Affordable Care Act's Marketplace from covering abortion;
*Protecting access to medication abortion and addressing the barriers that remain for people of color working to make ends meet, including a lack of access to broadband internet for those getting pills online and lack of permanent address to get their pills in the mail.
Last fall, you promised a whole of government response to Texas' abortion ban. The ripple effects of Friday's Supreme Court demand nothing less.
Show us your action plan for abortion justice today.
