Let's Answer The Call For Criminal Justice Reform

For those exiting our prison system, we know that the challenges they face rejoining society are significant. Finding a job, securing housing, and getting health care are all essential to an individual's post-release success. An ID is needed to obtain these benefits, yet nearly 1 in 5 Coloradans leave prison without a state-issued ID. That is why we are counting on your support to champion this policy.

Colorado has made progress in reducing its prison population and supporting individuals reentering society. In 2013, the Colorado Department of Corrections issued guidance that has been effective in assisting with securing an ID. But there is still a gap in reaching every individual and the program could be halted without the passage of legislation.

We must do everything we can to make sure the Colorado legislature passes a bill that provides a state-issued ID to all eligible offenders. A strong majority of Coloradans, 75 percent, support this assistance with the goal of reducing repeat offenders. We need your help to make sure this popular and successful policy becomes permanent!

Join Healthier Colorado in answering the call for criminal justice reform. We must give people leaving prison the tools they need for successful re-entry into the community. Providing a state-issued ID is an essential first step. Your support can make that possible and give individuals a second chance at a healthy life.
