We Must Act Now To Save Our Caribou!

Caribou have been a fundamental part of Canada's ecosystems for more than 2 million years. They have shaped and been shaped by the harsh climates and landscapes and are built for survival where few others can live.

However, today caribou populations across Canada — from Quebec's southern Atlantic-Gaspésie Woodland Caribou to the northern Barren Ground Caribou of Nunavut, the Northwest Territories, and the Yukon — are disappearing from the habitats they have historically called home.

In fact, caribou populations in Canada have plummeted more than 60% from their greatest numbers.

Caribou require large areas of undisturbed, interconnected habitat where they can find food, give birth and raise their young away from predators, and avoid human-caused disturbances. It is imperative that we protect caribou habitat if these iconic animals are to have any hope of survival.

That's why we are calling on Canada's provinces, territories, and the federal government to create a habit of protection — concrete steps to protect caribou and their habitat across the different herds in Canada using existing legal tools. Will you join us?

Sign the petition today and urge our leaders to save Canada's caribou by protecting their habitat before it is too late.
