Sign to Support Governor Hutchinson's Resolution to Review and Strengthen Arkansas Levees

At the end of May, the overflowing Arkansas River tore a massive hole in a levee northwest of Little Rock, Arkansas, prompting flood warnings and evacuations in rural neighborhoods such as Dardanelle and Holla Bend. Within days, communities had been evacuated and thousands of family homes were destroyed.

In response to the flood, Governor Hutchinson declared he will prioritize assessing the quality of the Arkansas's levees.

Sadly, many of the state's levees have failed inspections in recent years. According to a 2017 assessment conducted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Arkansas levees were in "unacceptable" condition. Though lawmakers and officials have raised this as an issue that needs to be addressed, no legislative progress has been made.

Failed levee inspections need to be taken seriously. If this public safety issue continues to go untreated, more Arkansas communitites will face a greater risk during future flooding events.

Let's not make the same mistake twice. Sign to support the Governor's resolution to inspect and strengthen our state's levees to protect Arkansas families.
