Help Us Respond to Disasters

Wildfires and floods are part of life in Canada. Every year, tens of thousands of Canadians are affected by disaster, wreaking havoc and turning lives upside-down.

The Canadian Red Cross' 6,000-strong disaster response team helps individuals, families and communities during times of disaster – and long after the fire is out or the waters recede – provide shelter, food, water, financial assistance and emotional support.

Large scale disasters are becoming more frequent and severe so we must be ready for whatever tomorrow brings. There is an urgent need to recruit and train more volunteers, make sure our emergency supplies are ready to be shipped in a moment's notice, and invest in vehicles and technology so we can continue to be on the cutting-edge of disaster response in Canada.

In addition, the COVID-19 pandemic has made life even more difficult for vulnerable populations and has made emergency response more complex.

That's where you come in. Nothing we do is possible without our nationwide network of supporters just like you. Your efforts, from volunteering to donating to sharing valuable disaster response resources, provide the backbone for all our work.

And it's not just here in Canada where your support makes a difference.

Earthquakes, landslides, hurricanes and floods stop for no one. Disasters can destroy health care systems. Unsafe water could ignite an epidemic. These are the challenges the Red Cross faces around the world. Because of our supporters, the Canadian Red Cross is a leader in international disaster response, able to deploy the emergency field hospital, along with highly-trained Canadian medical specialists, anywhere in the world within 72-hours.
