In the world's poorest countries, children with disabilities are more than twice as likely to be out of school as their peers. This has a lifelong effect on their chance to fulfil their potential, live independent lives and support themselves financially as adults. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, as many as 33 million children with disabilities in low and middle income countries were out of school, and during the pandemic the challenges they faced have only increased.
No child should be denied their right to education. And there's something you can do about it.
At Sightsavers, we're fighting for the rights of the world's one billion people with disabilities – to go to school, vote, work, access health care and take part fully in society. It's shocking that in 2022 this denial of basic human rights is still happening, and if our leaders take it seriously, they can push for real and lasting change.
Join the Equal World campaign today and help us call on world leaders to uphold disability rights around the world.
