Mother and daughter raped – Demand justice

Claire Yinguinza is a loving mother of eight and grandmother to 11 kids. In December 2013 she was home with her family when a group of armed men burst in, looting their home and raping Claire and her 19-year-old daughter, Nadia.

During the attack, Claire's terrified grandchildren were crying out. The men threatened to kill Claire if they didn't keep quiet.

The traumatic events didn't end there. Doctors soon discovered that Nadia was infected with HIV and fell pregnant as a result of the rape. She gave birth to a baby girl who is also HIV positive.

Claire and her family are still awaiting justice for these horrendous crimes which have permanently turned their lives upside down.

The men responsible are part of the anti-Balaka group in the Central African Republic (CAR). They are a group of 'self-defence' militia made up largely of animists and Christians who target Muslims.

Traumatic events like this  happen all too often in CAR, and there's limited recourse for women seeking accountability. For the courageous few that come forward with their stories, reprisal attacks are a real threat.

Claire has taken the brave step of preparing to take her case to the High Court. Will you stand with her?

Join our call on the President of the CAR to ensure justice and protection for Claire and her family right now.
