Urge New Jersey to Fund Projects to Improve PATH Service and Conditions
The PATH service area in Hudson and Essex Counties is experiencing an unprecedented building boom. Year after year, ridership on PATH hits a record high. In 2018, PATH accommodated 81.73 million passengers, the second-highest annual ridership on record.
Yet, despite soaring demand, the State of New Jersey has woefully underinvested in infrastructure to ensure PATH services meets commuters' needs. With PATH funding frozen at bare minimum levels, travelers have endured delays, cancellations, weekend station closures and chronic overcrowding, which at times expose riders to dangerous conditions. Adding insult to injury, fare hikes mean commuters are now paying more for less frequent, reliable service.
PATH is essential to New Jersey's transportation system. Rather than making cuts, New Jersey should be investing in improvements, like expanded weekend and night service and more trains during rush hour, that meet the needs of today's commuters and allows ridership to keep growing.

I'm writing to you on behalf of the New Jersey Commuters Alliance, a grassroots organization whose goal is to advocate for smart, common sense transportation-related infrastructure projects that ease the burden for commuters, riders and passengers of all types.
Over the last decade, ridership levels on PATH have soared and fares have skyrocketed. Instead of increasing service and funding common sense infrastructure solutions, the State of New Jersey has stood by idly while passengers paid the price.
The bottom line: PATH service and conditions need to improve.
The New Jersey Commuters Alliance is mobilizing in support of common sense infrastructure projects designed to greatly reduce commute times, increase quality of life for residents, and stimulate economic activity throughout New Jersey. To meet this goal, we call on the State of New Jersey to adequately fund impactful infrastructure projects and increase weekday, weekend and night time PATH service.
