The US Won't Support Survivors Of Rape As A Weapon of War

This month, the United Nations Security Council was preparing to vote on a resolution not only condemning the use of rape as a weapon in warzones, but to create the basis for international efforts to help the survivors of this horrific practice.

A vote almost didn't happen, however, when the United States stated it would veto the resolution.

A vote eventually went forward, with U.S. support, but only after some language from the resolution was removed – namely, a short passage that would have created a survivor-first program that would address sexual and reproductive health. But, to appeal to anti-abortion conservative Christians, the Trump administration has become adamantly opposed to any UN resolution mentioning reproductive health.

To place 2020 presidential campaigning goals ahead of the well-being of thousands of survivors of sexual violence is completely unacceptable.

Add your name to this petition to call on the Trump administration to change its stance on this crucial issue and back a UN resolution including the original draft language!
