Bring Clean Water and Sanitation to Women and Girls Around The World

In some countries, women and children spend more than four hours walking for water each day. This is precious time they are unable to dedicate to school, work, and their families.

Bijali knows this hardship all too well. For the first 30 years of her life, she had to walk for water. "We collected drinking water from our village pond," Bijali said. "The monsoon seasons were tough, as I had to walk through a waterlogged, broken path."

In developing countries, there are millions of women and girls just like Bijali who are at a disadvantage from the start. They are more likely to suffer health problems and miss school and more likely to marry and bear children at an early age.

One key to ending this inequality is access to safe water and sanitation facilities.

These days, Bijali has water at her fingertips. Thanks to Water For People and a government initiative to install household water connections in West Bengal, she now has more time to care for her family and her son is able to stay in school, instead of having to help her fetch water.

Water For People exists to promote the development of high-quality drinking water and sanitation services, accessible to all, and sustained by strong communities, businesses, and governments. But, we can't do it alone.

Sign and show your support for bringing safe water and sanitation to more women and girls. Together, we can ensure they have the opportunities, choices, and bright futures they deserve.
