Decriminalise cannabis: support medical use and personal use!

I experience chronic, debilitating pain on a regular basis. I hate taking strong opiates, which cause further pain spirals, withdrawal cramps and itching, and leave me struggling to think. Anti-inflammatories give me stomach ulcers that stop me from eating. I'd like to be able to access gentler, cannabis-derived pain medication, but the law says I have to stick with the rougher drugs. Why? Because our drug laws are outdated and irrational.

The UK’s two leading public health bodies, the Royal Society for Public Health the Faculty of Public Health, have called for the personal possession and use of drugs to be decriminalised. The bodies represent thousands of doctors and other professionals. Please sign this petition to ask the UK Government to legalise cannabis as an initial step towards a more health-centered approach to drugs so adults can enjoy safely regulated cannabis for recreation and health, and punishment can be replaced with advice and support.

The Royal Society say that the punishment-driven "war on drugs" has done more harm than good, and the public agree. The Royal Society for Health polled 2,000 UK adults, and 56% agreed that drug users in their local area deserved treatment, not punishment. Only 28% disagreed.

Please sign this petition to ask that the UK government reflect the evidence and expert opinions, and legalise cannabis. If enough people sign this petition, it will prove that the public is ready for rational and compassionate drug legislation.
