STOP SPRAYING SCOURGE (Resmethrin) INSECTICIDE IN NASSAU COUNTY - specifically Floral Park, NY

Due to the neurological effects of Resmethrin and the potential for detriments to neurologic development in children and unborn fetuses, we are asking that Nassau County not spray the Floral Park and New Hyde Park areas - and particularly not on Plainfield Ave in Floral Park.

As per the "National Pesticide Information Center":

-Resmethrin is classified by the U.S. EPA as “likely to be carcinogenic to humans” based on “increased incidences of benign and malignant liver tumors in female rats and male mice.”

-Pyrethroids are rapidly absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract following ingestion, likely to be efficiently absorbed fromthe respiratory tract following inhalation.

-Resmethrin is degraded in the environment primarily by photolysis (sunlight). But the typical half-life of resmethrin in the soil is 30 days. It takes 5 half-lives (150 days) for only 3% to remain.

-There were musculoskeletal defects found in animals, but there is no human data found on the reproductive or developmental effects of resmethrin.

CCN states:

“This is the third epidemiological study from California that has shown that prenatal pesticide exposure is associated with ASD,” said Alycia Halladay, senior director of environmental and clinical sciences for Autism Speaks. “It reinforces the advice of public health care experts and doctors to minimize exposure to these chemicals during pregnancy.”
