Tell the Missouri Senate to stop the GOP from killing all public libraries!

Republicans in Missouri have decided that if they can’t get rid of LGBT+ books from public libraries, they’ll just get rid of the libraries entirely!

The GOP legislature just passed a budget cutting all $4.5 million from the public library budget in retaliation for a lawsuit by the Missouri Library Association (MLA), which is suing the state over a draconian law that bans books that discuss LGBTQ issues, racial justice and the history of the Holocaust.

Tell the Missouri legislature to restore the library funding!

“Library funding is guaranteed in the MO constitution. This tactic, meant to bully MLA into submission, instead directly harms public libraries who rely on those funds, especially the smaller, more rural libraries,” the MLA said in a statement.

This vicious tactic comes straight out of the Jim Crow playbook, just like how right-wingers used to close the public pools when courts ruled they couldn't ban Black people from swimming in them. All kids deserve to have books to read!
