CPSC: Investigate Single-use Laundry Pods

In 2012 alone, there have been about 500 incidents involving children or adults who were injured by single-use laundry pods.  Poison-control centers have received many more calls (upwards of 3,000 by September) regarding exposure to laundry pods involving children age five or younger.  The bright colors of these pods are very attractive to children and their size and compostion makes them easy to ingest if a child bites into them.

We understand and appreciate that the Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a safety alert advising parents and caregivers to lock up these products and keep them away from children.  However, we feel that this action falls short of what is necessary to protect our children from the dangers these pods pose.

We urge the CPSC to further investigate this issue and to consider stricter regulations regarding the packaging and warning labels on these products.
