Health insurance should be for everyone!

The bill H.R.1628 (2017) titled "American Health Care Act of 2017" is misleading and far too complex for citizens to understand. It does not deem any real benefits for low income citizens. It involves a budget cut on health insurance causing many people to loose Medicaid coverage. People will basically have to start paying for their own health insurance. There are going to be many low-income individuals and families who may not fit into these new requirements nor be eligible for Medicaid. This will also affect the elderly. They would be charged way more than younger adults for the same coverage plan just because they require more needs. It is estimated that millions of people will become underinsured. According to the NASW Code of Ethics standard 6.04 (a), social workers should take part in social and political action that looks to guarantee that all individuals have equal access to the assets they require to meet their basic human needs and to develop fully. People have the right according to this act, to be properly represented in the government. Those who come from a low-income household, may not have all the resources to do research on this change in healthcare. Health care should be available for everybody, especially for those who cannot afford to pay medical bills out of pocket. This bill appears to be a scheme against those who are not financially stable, targeting minorities the most. In order for fairness all around, we citizens need to vote! We need to be represented fairly in the government. Actions lately in politics have not always been in the best interest for people of color. Protest this policy and stand for what we deserve.
