Demand an end to HMSA and Queens buyout

I’ve come across news that Alii Health is being bought by Queens Medical Center and HMSA insurance. I wondered why no one is looking into this merger as it benefits no one except the insurance company.

Queens medical center has a long history of failed buyouts under their belt. Kona is at risk of losing their doctors and surgeons as they are being forced to sign unreasonable contracts.

There is only one OR available to operate in at the Kona hospital yet they want their doctors to work on an RVU basis ( think commission) The RVUs are impossible to complete based on this. If the doctors do not fulfill their RVUs they have to pay back their salary.

This begs the question, how many doctors will sign? Of those that do, how many will leave once they have fulfilled work elsewhere? Does this bode well for the Kona community? What works elsewhere, say Honolulu, does not necessarily work on the Big Island. Queens has proved this with failed attempts at mergers before.

With HMSA pushing their clients on our doctors, where does that leave the majority of the island population? It leaves them without medical and surgical care. It leaves the island at risk of losing their doctors if they continue to push an RVU agenda. Just food for thought.
