Missouri voters were clear in their support for a sick leave mandate: 58% voted in favor of the popular policy. The new program required private employers to provide paid sick time to all employees within the state, making Missouri one of the first states in the country to guarantee paid time off when employees are ill or injured.
Then, less than two months after the program had been put into effect, Republicans repealed it. This mandate was voted in by the people. Lawmakers have no right to remove it. Sign the petition demanding the Missouri paid sick leave mandate be reinstated at ONCE!The talking points made by Republicans against paid sick leave are the same ones that they use to oppose any social program: that such policies would be "job killers."
But research actually shows that paid sick leave lowers employee turnover, especially for women, and improves workforce participation overall. Plus, most obviously, it dramatically improves employee health, empowering workers to take time off when they need it.
The repeal will formally go into effect at the end of August,
less than five months after it took effect in May of 2025.
Workers deserve paid sick leave protections, and voters deserve democratically-approved programs. It's time Republicans reapprove the paid sick leave that was supported by voters!
