Ensure Every Cancer Patient Can Be a Survivor: Keep Making Cancer History

A cancer diagnosis changes your life.

That's what happened to Emmie, who had her worst fears confirmed when a lump on her breast was diagnosed with Stage IIA cancer in 2013. She remembered losing her own mother to cancer and worried her two young kids would also grow up without their mom.

Emmie underwent aggressive treatment at MD Anderson, including chemotherapy, a double mastectomy and seven months of taking a targeted therapy drug.

It worked: She's been cancer-free for three years.

Thanks to years of research to find the most effective treatments, Emmie's survivor story is becoming more common. But every day there are still too many diagnoses and too many people who never become survivors.

In support of Making Cancer History®, we need to ensure every patient gets access to a unique treatment plan that best addresses their specific illness. They need support from patient advocates, friends, family and other patients who can help keep their life on track while they undergo treatment and create a community that will fight alongside them. And we need to keep searching for new and better ways to treat the disease.
