Many patients in South Carolina are facing an impossible choice: pay rent or continue their life-saving treatment. For patients with complex or chronic diseases, innovative medications – including provider-administered therapies like infusions– can help them live healthy, productive lives. But high costs, harmful insurance practices, and other barriers are keeping patients from getting the care they need.

Help us support patients in South Carolina by reducing barriers to care.

Dear [Legislator Name],

High out-of-pocket costs and other insurance barriers are keeping patients in South Carolina from accessing the care needed to live full, healthy, and productive lives. Recently, some health insurance companies have made it harder for patients to afford their treatments by enacting dangerous new programs that prevent copay assistance from counting toward a patient's annual deductible or out-of-pocket maximum. Often called "copay accumulators," these policies leave many patients with unbearably high medical bills and difficult choices about their care. However, H4987 will help South Carolina residents continue to access the treatments they rely on by requiring insurers to count the value of copay assistance towards any patient cost-sharing obligations.

As your constituent, I urge you to support H4987 to ensure that South Carolina patients can afford the care they need.

Thank you,
