In the world's poorest countries, children with disabilities are more than twice as likely to be out of school as their peers. This has a lifelong effect on their chance to fulfil their potential, live independent lives and support themselves financially as adults. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, as many as 33 million children with disabilities in low and middle income countries were out of school, and during the pandemic the challenges they faced have only increased.
