Don't Sacrifice Fighting AIDS to Budget Sequestration!

Budget sequestration - a broad, hard cap on government spending - will affect a wide range of programs and services equally. But the effects of some cuts will be more widely felt than others.

A cut through sequestration to the U.S. Global Health Initiative (GHI) would do little to reduce the deficit, but the human impact on HIV/AIDS assistance would be devastating.

As a result of 2013 sequestration, 67,200 fewer HIV-positive pregnant women will receive aid services, leading to more than 12,800 infants being infected with HIV. And HIV/AIDS treatment for 171,900 people will not be available, potentially leading to 39,200 more AIDS-related deaths and 77,200 more children becoming orphans.

These funds represent only 0.63% of the total required in deficit reduction for 2013. It's simply not worth the sacrifice. Please add your name in strong support for maintaining funding for critical HIV/AIDS programs.
