Tell Congress to protect Medicare

As we approach the end of the year, hospitals face a total 6% cut to Medicare payments due to automatic federal policies like Statutory PAYGO (or "pay as you go") and the resumption of the Sequester. If triggered, these cuts would have devastating consequences for hospitals and the patients they serve.

Congress needs to act to ensure there are no reductions in Medicare spending, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic when hospitals are providing crucial lifesaving care to the patients they serve. Send a message to your lawmakers now urging them to protect Medicare and ensure all Americans have access to affordable, high-quality care.

I'm writing to you as a constituent and a supporter of the Coalition to Protect America's Health Care, a community of more than 2 million people who are committed to protecting hospitals, health systems, and patient care.

Over the past year and a half of the COVID-19 pandemic, hospitals and health care workers have been stretched to the limit -- and they need crucial funding to continue providing quality, affordable care to all patients. But now, Statutory PAYGO (or "pay as you go") and the resumption of the Medicare Sequester threaten to cut Medicare payments to hospitals by a combined 6%.A recent AHA study suggests that these combined Medicare cuts to hospitals amount to approximately $14 billion in 2022 for fee-for-service alone.

If triggered, these cuts would have devastating consequences for hospitals and the patients they serve. This funding is needed to continue providing access to quality care amid the ongoing public health crisis posed by COVID-19.

We cannot have healthy communities without a health care system that provides care for all those who need it. And to do that, hospitals and health systems need the necessary funding -- and patients must be able to access high-quality, affordable care. Please use your voice and your vote to protect Medicare, and the community you serve. Before the end of the year, we urge Congress to: 1) waive Statutory PAYGO and 2) extend the Medicare sequester moratorium until the end of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE).
