Tell Health and Human Services: Stand Up to Insurance Companies

Health and Human Services (HHS) plans to impose a required review for insurance rate increases over 10 percent.

America's Health Insurance Plan (AHIP), which represents the insurance companies, wants to go easy on states' ability to increase insurance rates. We can't allow these increases to go unchecked.

HHS expects most states can meet the standards for review and others will catch up as they implement new or enhanced review processes. But AHIP says the 10 percent review level is unreasonable. They want to delay effective regulation for one year, until July 2012, and adjust the regulations for states that won't meet the requirements for effective review.

Tell Health and Human Services to protect American consumers by keeping scheduled implementation of the 10 percent review rule for insurance increases.
Dear Secretary Sebelius,

As an American consumer, I urge you to stand up to America's Health Insurance Plan and keep the 10 percent review level for insurance increases. Do not delay the effective regulation date, as AHIP requests, or adjust the rule for states that don't currently meet filing requirements for rate increase requests.
