Tell Congress: Support Live-saving Legislation For People With Liver Disease

In total, over 30 million Americans have some form of liver disease. It is among the ten major causes of death in our country.

Right now, we have an opportunity to help people with liver disease by supporting critical legislation that can save lives by removing arbitrary barriers that might otherwise discourage living donors.

The Living Donor and Protection Act is intended to further protect the interests of individuals that make the commitment to donate livers and kidneys. Essentially, the bill bans discrimination in life-insurance, disability insurance, and long-term care insurance for organ donors.

Moreover, the bill also amends the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) to include organ donation surgery as "serious health condition" for the purposes of benefits and protections.

The American Liver Foundation (ALF) is the only voluntary organization in the nation that provides a voice for the 30 million Americans with liver disease. ALF provides financial support for medical research, education for medical professionals, and advocacy and information for patients and their families, and by creating public awareness campaigns about liver wellness and disease prevention.

Will you join us to support this legislation and make a difference in the fight against liver disease?

Join the American Liver Foundation today to tell your members of Congress to Co-sponsor the Living Donor Protection Act today!
Dear [Decisionmaker],

I write you today as a constituent and as an advocate for the liver disease community to ask that your office please cosponsor the bipartisan Living Donor Protection Act (S. 377/ H.R. 1255). This important legislation seeks to protect organ donors from discrimination and encourage organ donation (which remains a tremendous need for patients).

Thank you for your time and your consideration of this request.

Thank you,
