The Athens Dog Pound is a High Kill Shelter in Athens Alabama. Volunteers work tirelessly every day to help the animals that are dropped off or turned in. The conditions in this facility have increasingly deteriorated and the animals are suffering. We, as a group of concerned citizens, want to help these homeless, abused, thrown away and forgotten animals. By signing this petition, you will be showing your support for those individuals that have made it their cause to see that this facility is either closed or changes made to insure that all animals receive as humane treatment as possible. The Dog Pound is under contract to Dr. Robert E. Pittman with the Limestone County Commission and the city of Athens, Alabama.
Some of the issues are as follows:
In humane EUTHANIZING methods. ( Heart Sick)
Under Feeding the animals. Food is donated by WalMart.
Animals becoming sick while incarcerated.
Not allowing Volunteers to help clean, exercise the animals.
Misdiagnosing medical conditions..allowing animals to be taken from facility while still not fully recovered from surgery. (dog died)
Charging for neuter/spay when animal is brought in already neutered/spayed.
Please~~help us fight for the lives of the animals at Athens Dog Pound.
