Bring Back Bill to the Westin Indianapolis!
On Jan. 31, 2009, William Selm, the Westin's esteemed doorman of 14 years, was banned from the Westin property
. His crime? Voicing his concern over the recent outsourcing of his co-workers' jobs.
He was the Westin Employee of the Year (1998) and honored by the city with the Indianapolis ROSE Award (2003) for customer service excellence.
In 2005, Mr. Selm even spoke on behalf of the Westin at a Statehouse Rally to bring funding to the Convention Center expansion.

We the undersigned hospitality workers and members of the Indianapolis community are expressing our outrage at the Westin Indianapolis%u2019 request to ban William Selm from working at their property. On Saturday January 31st, William, an employee of Towne Park who had worked for the Westin for 14 years was told that he may no longer return to the Westin property. The only reason given was that the hotel was upset that he was expressing concern for the numerous restaurant workers whose jobs had been contracted out the previous day.
The Westin Indianapolis has benefited from the generosity of the taxpayers of the City of Indianapolis and the State of Indiana by the taxpayer subsidized expansion of the Convention Center and the building of Lucas Oil Stadium. The Westin Indianapolis has benefited disproportionately from both, and has not lived up to our standard to create, rather than eliminate, good jobs for the taxpayers of Indiana.
The Westin Indianapolis needs to live up to this standard and allow William Selm to return.
