Aunque no se ha confirmado la muerte de la hembra, Pepe murió acribillado y a menos que el Ministerio cambien su posición, los otros dos y 21 que quedan en la hacienda Nápoles pueden correr la misma suerte. Los hipopotamos son una especie amenazada, por lo que la obligación de los entes que regulan el medio ambiente es protegerlos, no amenazar su vida. Lo que ha pasado es una verguenza para los colombianos y para todos aquellos que aman y protegen a los animales alrededor del mundo.
Eventhough the female hippo's death is not confirmed, Pepe the male, was shot in June, just recently the pictures were showed and people knew the terrible news. As hippopotamus is a species in danger, the Ministery of Environment obligation is to protect them, not to menace their lives. It is really contradictory and a shame for colombians and all people who love and care animals around the world. It is shown the lack of capacity the current Minister has to face the difficult issues in a country as Colombia in the Environment field. The Colombian Government must take a decision to solve not only the hippopotamus topic but the other important themes related to wildlife, an underrated issue in a country recognized around the world by its biodiversity. The Colombian Government must rearrange and reinforce its laws in order to protect wildlife and the Colombian natural resources.
