Get domestic violence punishments longer

Domestic violence is a serious issue that takes place every single day in the UK. It has gotten to the extreme point of 1 in every 4 women are experiencing domestic violence in their lifetimes. There are laws already set into place when regarding this crime but over 70% of the population believe that these crimes are not extreme enough for what the offenders put the victims through. Studies show that being a victim of domestic violence effects your entire life, both physically and mentally, so how is it fair for the offender to not have their life effected too?
