Current political affairs to be taught in UK high schools

Only 36% of those registered to vote aged 18-24 took part in the Brexit vote. I believe that teaching those aged 11-18 about current affairs and political parties at school will increase the percentage of 18-24 year olds that vote in the future, after all it could be argued that young people are those most affected by the outcomes of elections. Teaching about current affairs can create enthusiasm which can lead to young people getting involved in local politics and help them value their opinions.
As a 16 year old i struggle to understand current political affairs which often leads to me to think that i shouldn't pay attention to them.Many others probably agree with me which leads me to question what will happen when we turn 18, if only we were taught more about our political parties more of us would register to vote about our futures.
We deserve to be taught about what's going on in our country. How are we expected to vote at 18 after all those years of being unaware about the issues?
