Ban Lead From Cosmetics & Jewelry!

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is responsible for regulating cosmetics under the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act of 1938. Per FDA.gov, "FDA's studies have found no lead levels that would pose safety concerns when lipstick is used as intended."

Why should we have to settle for having ANY lead in our lipstick at all? If the level of lead is so low, why can't we do away with it altogether? Why is it necessary? The FDA doesn't even bother setting limits for what an "acceptable" level of lead would be, probably because the scientific consensus is that there is NO safe level of lead exposure. It defies logic that lead is still being used in cosmetics and jewelry in spite of the very serious risks to human health. 

Interestingly, lead is already banned from jewelry in the Euopean Union. In the U.S., jewelry that has been labeled "lead-free" has, unfortunately, been found to be tainted with lead.

Let's tell the FDA and the U.S. Congress that we need a complete ban on lead in cosmetics and jewelry.
