The United States currently does not have a health care system, we have a sick care system. Instead of waiting to provide expensive treatment once people get sick, we need to give more attention to helping people stay well. If we do not address the preventable conditions that lead to poor health and high health care costs, our generation of children will be the first in American history to live sicker and die younger than their parents.
Partnership for Prevention has developed recommendations policymakers can follow to ensure that both clinical and community preventive services play an important role in a reformed health system. This means the right of every American to immunizations that prevent disease, health screenings that detect cancer and other chronic illnesses in their early stages, and programs that help communities fight obesity by providing opportunities for physical activity and assuring access to healthy food for every family
